Considering Invisalign®

In Castro Valley?

If you’re unhappy with your smile and wish for straighter teeth, then you may be considering Invisalign® in Castro Valley. Specifically, Invisalign® is an orthodontic product that utilizes a series of clear aligner trays to gradually straighten your teeth without the need for cumbersome metal braces and brackets. Here at Redwood Canyon Dentistry, Invisalign® is just one of the many dental services our experienced team has to offer.

Benefits of Invisalign®

There are numerous benefits to choosing Invisalign® to straighten your teeth as opposed to traditional braces. For starters, Invisalign® trays are transparent, so nobody needs to know that you’re wearing them! This makes them a great option for those who have been putting off orthodontic treatment due to the embarrassment that can come along with sporting metal braces. Furthermore, adults who have been hesitant to get braces due to the “juvenile” appearance can benefit from the low-key design of these clear trays.

In addition to being barely noticeable, Invisalign® trays can be removed at any time. Unlike braces, which are literally cemented onto your teeth, Invisalign® trays can be easily popped out while eating and brushing your teeth. As a result, you can continue to eat the foods you love that you would otherwise be restricted from with traditional braces. Furthermore, because you can remove trays while brushing and flossing, you’ll be able to better care for your teeth during treatment than you would with traditional braces, which can be very difficult to floss and clean around.

What to Expect From Invisalign®

So, how does Invisalign® work and what can you expect from the process? You’ll begin with an evaluation, where our dentists in Castro Valley will ensure that you’re a viable candidate for Invisalign® and begin taking molds of your teeth and gums so custom aligner trays can be created. On the day you receive your first trays, you’ll likely be instructed to wear them for about two weeks. There will be an adjustment period here as you get used to wearing the trays, and you will begin to feel your teeth shifting ever so slightly in your mouth. It is important to make sure you’re wearing your aligners as often as possible—and at least 20 hours out of the day.

Usually, trays are worn for about two weeks before you move onto the next set of trays. The entire treatment process typically lasts about as long as traditional braces, which is anywhere from a year to about two years. Once your treatment is complete, clear retainers should continue to be worn to prevent teeth from moving back into their existing spaces.
